Welcome to my website! My name is Thomas Comick. I am an aspiring filmmaker and film student currently enrolled at UNCSA, on the track for a BFA in Filmmaking. I finished my first semester and am very proud of my progress. As a first year student I was accepted to, and won, UNCSA”s Ambrosia film festival. I am excited to share my journey with you all as I grow as an artist. My passion for the art of filmmaking has been around as long as I can remember. I vividly remember making my first film in 2nd grade on my mothers Ipad. I have not lost my desire to create since then.
There was one moment in particular that was very defining. It all began in the depths of a Costa Rican rainforest, where I was immersed in the beauty and uncertainty of the natural world. It was there, surrounded by unfamiliar sounds, smells, and colors, that my love for storytelling was galvanized and I realized the power of film to shape perspectives. My experiences in Costa Rica, from encounters with crocodiles to participation in turtle conservation efforts, taught me to embrace uncertainty and view it as an opportunity for growth and discovery. I saw things that many people may never have the chance to see in person, further enforcing my need to show people the world through the lens of my camera.
In second grade I used to create Paranormal Activity inspired films on my mothers Ipad. I spent my summers from 5th grade on doing film camps and creating 4 feature films alongside my friends. I love being both behind and in front of the camera, I have been training and working as an actor for 6 years now. My training has taught me tons and I am excited to continue my growth as an actor/filmmaker. Though the film industry is ever-changing and undeniably challenging, I am driven by my love for storytelling and my desire to make a positive impact on the world through film.
My goal is to use my talents to create meaningful and thought-provoking work that can educate and enlighten audiences, ultimately leading to a better understanding and acceptance of our shared humanity and culture. I want to make works that can grow and I believe that cinema, in particular, has the ability to touch people on a personal level and evoke empathy and understanding. Through my work, I aim to create a space for dialogue and reflection, encouraging people to question their own beliefs and see the world from a different point of view. I hope to create work that is marking to the audience, and leaves them thinking and dissecting what they have seen.
I am currently in the process of learning and growing as a filmmaker, and I am excited to see where this journey will take me. In school I am specifically studying directing and writing for the screen. I am dedicated to honing my craft and making a meaningful contribution to the world through film. Thank you for joining me on this journey and I cannot wait to see what I am able to accomplish.
